Longest Ride of The Year! So Far.........

Longest ride of the year so far for both myself and James. Have been restricted to training indoors so far with the poor weather, although today was still bitterly cold.

Wrapped up warm with lots of layers and headed out of Hartlepool just after 8.30am, off through Wolviston and met James at Wynyard Cricket Club. The cold weather soon started to take hold of us both and we quickly lost the feeling in both hands and toes. Headed out through Yarm and came accross a large group of cyclists stopping for Bacon sandwiches. This did sound tempting but we kept going. Slow steady climb out the back of Yarm and a right turn at the roundabout towards Worsall. We made quick work of this section and soon had a decision to make a left turn to Northallerton or a right turn to start heading home via Darlington. We were both suffering with the freezing temperature (especially James with his bare legs on display, must prepare better next week!) so opted for the right turn. Down through Croft over the Tees and then into Darlo.
We head for the town centre and took a well earned break and a cuppa in Yates.
Two pots of tea later we set off again at a very steady pace out of Darlo and onto Sadberge. It took some getting going agian but we soon picked up the pace and were heading round the back of Stockton towards Carlton in no time. Another quick two minutes were had just outside of carlton to capture some pictures, before getting our heads down for the final stretch.
Next was the short sharp climb up the back of Wynyard (it always amazes me how difficult this stretch feels, I much prefer flying down it) before once again leaving James to head our separate ways. Another 7-8 miles for me from here through Wolviston and onto the long boring stretch of the A689 back into Hartlepool.
Great ride out although very cold, very very cold but glad we got out.
